The new amendment for the Penal Code went through the first reading on 4 April 2023.

The Bill seeks to amend the Penal Code to substitute and remove certain sections in relation to, amongst others, attempted suicide. 

The Bill seeks to substitute Section 305 of the Penal Code whereby the abetment of the commission of an attempted suicide of a child or a person who lacks mental capacity will also be a criminal offence.

The Bill also seeks to substitute Section 306 of the Penal Code whereby the abetment of the commission of attempted suicide by any person will be a criminal offence. 

In addition, the Bill seeks to remove Section 309 of the Penal Code to decriminalise attempted suicide.
