Tan Weng Zhi, Aston (Associate)
Aston graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from University of Sheffield, where he distinguished himself academically. Before commencing his pupillage, Aston gained valuable experience as a paralegal at YC Pang, Chong & Gordon, a firm known for its conveyancing works. This role has developed him with skills in conveyancing and client management.
He then began his legal career under the mentorship of Mr Peter Ling at Peter Ling & Van Geyzel, where he completed his pupillage with a focus on corporate works, including significant exposure to mergers and acquisitions (M&A). During this time, he gained invaluable experience in assisting the firm to handle corporate transactions and navigating regulatory frameworks. He was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2024.
In August 2024, Aston joined Richard Wee Chambers to further his corporate practice. His move to RWC marks a new chapter in his career, where he continues to learn and strengthen his expertise in corporate law, while exploring new corporate matters and contributing to the firm’s growth and success.
As a student, Aston was actively involved in various extracurricular activities. He volunteered with UNHCR legal aid to assist in refugee matters and took on leadership roles in student societies – MASSOC Sheffield. He was also involved in the Asian Law Students’ Association National Conference Committee Board for the years 2015 and 2017 respectively, demonstrating his commitment to both legal education and social justice.
Beyond his legal pursuits, Aston is an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoys playing badminton, hiking, spinning, and boxing. These activities not only keep him fit and healthy but also sharpen his mental agility, which he brings to his legal practice.
