Penelope Gan Paik Ling (Partner)
Penelope is a graduate of the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons). She thereafter obtained the Malaysian Certificate in Legal Practice and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in February 2003.
She is has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the Risk Management Committee, a member of the Audit Committee, Nomination Committee, Remuneration Committee and Sustainability Committee of Berjaya Corporation Berhad since 2018.
Penelope is also the legal advisor for the Gan Association of Malaysia and a non-profit organization Better Malaysia Foundation (BMF), accredited as a member of Malaysian Institute of Estate Planning (MIEP) and Olave Baden-Powell Society (United Kingdom).
She focuses on corporate and commercial law, real estate, banking and estate planning. She advises on general corporate matters for companies in franchising, property construction, food and beverage industry, distributorship and healthcare including negotiating and preparing agreements for joint venture, privatization, shares sale, corporate restructuring, business and estate planning, family and succession as well as financial documentation.
In over two decades of legal practice, Penelope has gained extensive experience in real estate transactions from advisory to completion of project/transaction which includes advising on rules and regulations in purchasing and selling property in Malaysia, corporate banking and housing loan transactions to development projects. Penelope has represented and advised local and foreign clients in business contract negotiations.
Throughout her legal practice, Penelope has also been involved in corporate floatation exercises for various companies both Main Board and Second Board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange and also due diligence for restructuring of non-performing loans of financial institution. She has also handled local and offshore financial institutions in various million dollar or ringgit-denominated loans for financing various investments both locally and overseas.
