RWC had on 14 August 2019 held its inaugural RWC Teh Tarik Talk, colloquially referred to as RWC TTT, entitled “Esports Professionals & Players – Rights, Regulations & Representation”. RWC TTT is a way of giving back to society in which we invite a guest speaker to be a co-speaker on a legal topic of interest and benefit to the society. All proceeds collected from the RWC TTT is channeled to an organisation and/or association that benefits the community or an industry.
With much furor and unrest in the Malaysian esports scene plagued by non-payment of prize money and/or salaries of esports players, the inaugural RWC TTT focused on esports law, specifically on the rights and representation of esports players and professionals.
We were honoured to have a veteran esports icon in the Malaysian esports scene, Tiffani “Oling” Lim to speak on this topic of interest. The session was moderated by Bryan Boo and the discussion delved into the problems esports players and esports organisations face, spotlighting the legal issues in esports contracts and non-payment of tournament prize money.
This is the first of many RWC TTT that will touch on various areas of law that affects the society and community at large. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on the latest upcoming RWC events.
