On the 16th November of 2023, Mr Richard Wee of Richard Wee Chambers was graciously invited to speak as a panellist for the Sports Forum 2.0: A Legal Framework on Improving Benefits for Retired Athletes through Legislation, at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sungai Long.

The forum was officiated by Yang Berusaha, Mr Alan Ling Sie Kong, Board Management Member of Malaysian National Sports Council.

During the forum, Mr Richard Wee spoke about the importance of acknowledging the lifestyle of our nation’s athletes and aspiring athletes. He highlighted the lack of pension schemes for our national athletes and its incumbent effects. Mr Richard advised that policy makers should look towards the American models of athlete retirement schemes as a framework to better cultivate the industry of sports for these athletes. Mr Richard further enlightens the forum with the ways athletes impact the economy through their passion in their careers, and why more cohesive and sustainable support systems should be introduced.

The parties at Richard Wee Chambers extend their heartfelt gratitude to the organising team at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman for the informative session.
