RWC WEBREPORT : Reported by Ashley Yip
On 24th August 2020, Marlysa Razak, RWC Partner, was invited to speak at the Malaysia Business Events Week 2020 (MBEW). Organized by the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture; the conference was aimed at encouraging innovation and investment in the tourism sector. The event wishes to instill assurances that Malaysia is a safe country and ready to stimulate the tourism industry.
Marlysa spoke about the legal side of the given topic ‘When the Going Gets Tough’ mainly on Tourism and Hospitality Laws. She also addressed force majeure issues and unforeseen circumstances, whether businesses have the right to activate the clause in their contract. Marlysa also touched on the temporary measures declared in the recent COVID-19 Bill and how it will affect businesses particularly events and tourism industry players. In summary Marlysa’s key takeaways from the meet were for people to anticipate the future and protect your rights and for businesses to take the time to review their contracts.
When approached, Richard Wee (Managing Partner of RWC) was pleased that the firm is able to contribute towards strengthening the belief that the Malaysian Tourism and Hospitality Industry will rise again and congratulated Marlysa for playing her part at the MBEW Conference.
